Portable External Hard Drives
Whether it is for backing up important data from your computer, keeping an extensive music collection, your most cherished digital photos or as additional storage, portable external hard drives are the way to go.
There are obviously certain factors to consider when purchasing portable external hard drives such as compatibility, actual size of the device and storage space. With the ever changing advances in technology portable external hard drives have become extremely easy to use and most top manufacturing brands have such compact versions that they are small and light enough to fit in a pocket or hand bag ( I mean who wants to walk around with a small box in their hand right). Most only require you to know how to plug a USB into your computer as portable external hard drives comes plug and play compatible, meaning there is software already on the hard drive that makes it readily available for use as soon as you plug it in.
Some people argue the fact that since Flash Drives now have increased capacity of storage volume and practically weightless to carry around it makes the portable external hard drives look like an obsolete technology. But in my humble opinion, when it comes to a longer lifespan, a much higher capacity for storage and a price that works on an average of less than $1 USD per Gigabyte, it most certainly seems best to choose portable external hard drives over flash drives, as I think you get more “BANG for the BUCK”.
Another important factor worth paying attention to is the RPM (revolutions per minute) of the hard drive. The bigger the number the faster it can read and write data. Most portable external hard drives are 5200 RPM however once again with recent technological advances the industry has been introducing 7200 RPM external hard drives, and even better is that they are becoming quieter as well. Faster and quieter is always a plus.
I want to share with you my opinion on two brands of external hard drives, Seagate portable external hard drive and Western Digital external hard drives as I have used them both and have found them to be quite reliable and not to damaging on the pockets ( Literally and Figuratively), and also a look at Firewire external hard drives and why i think they are pretty handy to have. At the end of the day, no matter your reason for needing the benefits of portable external hard drives, they are without a doubt quickly becoming and integral part of the way we store and carry our data.
